Ombudsman for Equality


Overview

The Ombudsman for Equality is an independent authority whose main duty is to supervise compliance with the Act on Equality between Women and Men. The Ombudsman has powers on matters related to gender and gender minorities (trans and intersex people). The powers of the Ombudsman consist of both combating discrimination and promoting equality. The Ombudsman carries out her tasks primarily by providing guidance and advice.

The organisation is a predominantly promotion-type and legal support body [1].

Non-Discrimination Ombudsman

Overview

The Non-Discrimination Ombudsman is an authority with the basic task of advancing the status and legal protection of ethnic minorities and foreigners as well as equality, non-discrimination and good ethnic relations in Finland. The Ombudsman also acts as the national rapporteur on trafficking of human beings.

The organisation is a predominantly promotion-type and legal support body [1].
