The Commission for Protection against Discrimination is an independent entity that started functioning on the 1st of January, 2011. The Commission covers 19 defined basis for discrimination sex, race, color, gender, belonging to a marginalized group, ethnicity, language, citizenship, social origin, religion or belief, education, political affiliation, personal or social status, mental or physical disability, age, family or marital status, property status, health and other grounds.

The organisation is a predominantly quasi-judicial body [1].
