The second meeting of the governmental expert group set up by the European Commission on July 2nd 2008 to strengthen the dialogue among members states on anti-discrimination and equal opportunities will be held in Brussels on April 27th 2009
The group, which gathered for the first time in November 2008, examines the impact of national and EU-level non-discrimination measures, validates good practice through peer learning and evaluates the effectiveness of non-discrimination policies. It is composed of one representative of national authorities in charge of policies against discrimination. The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights acts as a permanent observer to the group (FRA). Other stakeholders such as experts, observers with specific competences, representatives from the civil society, social partners and equality bodies can contribute on an ad hoc basis. Amongst the subjects that the meeting will cover, there will be a session on the objectives and expectations for the forthcoming Equality Summit which will take place in Stockholm in November 2009. This year, the governmental expert group will mainly concentrate on multiple discrimination and discrimination mainstreaming and will follow up, together with the Commission, a comparative study on homophobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in the EU, carried out by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights.
