Bulgarian national legal workshop, 23 - 25 September 2009

On 23-25 September 2009, the Bulgarian Commission for Protection against Discrimination is organising the second edition of the National Legal Workshop in Varna, Bulgaria. This unique forum will provide an opportunity for magistrates, lawyers and judges at national level to meet and exchange knowledge and expertise on specific issues and cases. The first National Legal Workshop was organised in 2008, with the financial support of the PROGRESS Programme (Partners In the Fight Against Discrimination Project).

This year's theme is 'Civil and Legal Aspects of Protection against Discrimination' and will focus on:

• the new initiatives planned and implemented by the European Commission in promoting the antidiscrimination legislation and equality principles, 
• the European Court of Justice and the European Court on Human Rights case law and practice,
• the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance General Policy Recommendations and Country Report for Bulgaria,
• the new initiatives in combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, antisemitism and intolerance in greater Europe from the perspective of the protection of human rights, in the light of the European Convention on Human Rights.
