Portuguese Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality

Mode of Establishment Law number 134/99 of 28th August, Decree Law 167/2007 of 3rd May.
Status The CICDR is an independent commission composed of representatives of Government organisations, members of Parliament, immigrant and anti-racist associations and representatives of trade unions and employer's organisations.
Mandate/Competences and responsibilities The competences of CICDR are to collect information in relation to the practice of discriminatory acts, recommending the adoption of legislative measures, promoting the realisation of studies and research work on racial discrimination and making publics cases of effective violations of the law.
Main activites/Promotion of Equality Its principle mission is to accompany the application of legislation that, in Portugal, comabts discrimination on the basis of race, colour, ancestry and national or ethnic origin.
