As of the 1 January 2011, the Directorate-General for Justice has been responsible for the coordination and promotion of anti-discrimination policy developments within the commission; it also takes the lead on promoting awareness of gender equality and non discrimination and coordinates policy developments regarding the social and economic inclusion of the Roma.
Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, is responsible for the Directorate General Justice; its Director General is Françoise Le Bail and the Directorate for Equality is headed by Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea.
