Bulgarian National Legal Workshop

October 26th 2010

The Bulgarian Commission for the Protection against Discrimination (CPD) has organised a National Legal Workshop dedicated to the application of anti-discrimination legislation. This workshop marks the fourth of its kind since 2007.

The event will take place on 28-30 October 2010 in Varna, Bulgaria. It represents an unique opportunity for magistrates, lawyers and judges at national level to meet, gain and exchange knowledge and practical skills in solving discrimination cases. The event is organised under the Progress to Equality Project VS/2009/0384 with the support of the EU Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity - PROGRESS. A significant part of the workshop will take the form of a ’moot court’ on discrimination cases. Participants will be divided into six groups and work on cases from the CPD.

Speakers for the event includethe following:

  • Niraj Nathway (European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights) who will present fundamental rights across the EU, as well as access to justice and the situation of disadvantaged groups.
  • Victor Soloveytchik (European Court of Human Rights) who will present relevant case law.
  • Jean-Philippe Christienne (Court of Luxembourg) who will discuss the build up of age discrimination case law in the Court of Justice of the European Union.
