EP votes on regulation on civil law protection for victims

May 22nd 2013

The European Parliament has voted the 22 May 2013 a Regulation on civil law protection for victims, complementing the Directive 2011/99/EU on the European Protection Order (EPO) on criminal matters which has to be implemented by 2015.

Would the Council (Member States) approve the Regulation, victims of stalking, harassment or violence against women who are granted protection in one Member State will get equivalent protection if they move or travel to another. The procedures for the recognition of protection measures ordered in another EU Member State will furthermore be simplified. This Regulation would cover threats to men’s and women’s physical and psychological integrity, including threats to personal liberty, security and sexual integrity.
