Equinet Training: Strategic Litigation

October 20th 2017

Register by 17 November!

Equinet is organizing a training event on Strategic Litigation for 15 equality body staff members in cooperation with the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights in Warsaw on 4-5 December 2017.

What is this?

Equinet will organise a 1 ½ day training session for senior lawyers and legal policy staff in equality bodies on strategic litigation. The training session will build on the discussions in the Equinet Strategic Litigation Cluster and the ‘Handbook on Strategic Litigation’ currently being worked on by this Members Cluster.

Participants will have the chance to explore and discuss, using a number of case studies, the benefits and challenges of strategic litigation and the selection criteria and different techniques to be used for successful strategic litigation.

Trainers will be members of the Equinet Cluster on Strategic Litigation.

Objectives

It aims to build the capacity of Equinet member equality bodies that have litigation powers to use such powers effectively and strategically, reaching the best outcome and impact with the limited resources available.
Training activities will contribute to this objective by:

  • introducing and understanding the concept and benefits and risks of strategic litigation;
  • discussing selection criteria for strategic litigation;
  • analyzing the tools at the disposal of equality bodies;
  • addressing other elements of strategic litigation, such as media and follow-up work

Participants

15 staff members from equality bodies will be trained during one and a half days.
Trainees will be case workers and litigators from equality bodies with powers to take cases to courts and/or tribunals.
The participants will work both as one group and in separate smaller groups in the course of the training.

As places are limited, registration is on a first come, first serve basis!

Registration

Please register for this training session via this link by 17 November.

Equinet can only cover the costs of travel and accommodation for one staff member per member organisation (with a max. of 15 participants).
