European Action Week against Racism: Equinet’s campaign

March 21st 2016

Every year, the UNITED for intercultural action (European Network against nationalism, racism, fascism, in support of migrants and refugees) runs the European Action Week against Racism. This year, the campaign started on 12th March and finished on 21st March, on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Considering the proliferation of racism against migrants and refugees at the moment, Equinet decided to join the campaign and highlight initiatives carried out by its members to fight racism across Europe. As of 14 March, Equinet issued one article per day presenting some of its members’ work on anti-discrimination.

As today marks the end of the European Action Week against Racism and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Equinet has gathered the items of its campaign and included other relevant material on combating discrimination on the ground of race or ethnicity.

Equinet’s work in 2016

In 2016, the Working Group on Equality Law will discuss the work of equality bodies on discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity and multiple discrimination where race and ethnicity intersect with other grounds such as gender, religion or belief. The discussion will cover discrimination in all fields of life. The Working Group will produce a discussion paper on some of the key challenges identified, including a focus on work done to combat discrimination against Roma people.
This paper will feed into the capacity-building seminar for staff members of equality bodies on discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity due to be held in November 2016 in Budapest.
