ILGA-Europe’s Rainbow Europe Map and Index 2011 illustrates the legal situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in Europe
The Rainbow Europe Map and Index were released by ILGA-Europe’s as part of commemorations of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO). It provides an overview of the progress made over the last year by European countries with regards to respecting human rights and ensuring full legal equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people (LGBT).
The map finds that no European country can claim to provide for full legal equality for LGBT people; significant variations exist between countries and in 14 countries (including 1 EU member state) gross violations of human rights and discrimination are taking place.
It is the first year that the map and index have also included categories on the situation of trans people.
