Trade union strategies to prevent, manage and eliminate work-place harassment and violence against women

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) project “Safe at Home, Safe at Work” has come to a close. It collected good practice examples from trade unions working to prevent, manage and eliminate work-place harassment and violence against women, producing country reports for Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Slovenia and Spain.

The need for a strong legal framework at national and international levels was stressed, as well as the need for early intervention in the workplace to prevent domestic violence from escalating. The project report also highlights that certain groups of women workers are at greater risk of domestic violence, such as migrant workers or domestic workers, who are sometimes excluded from rights enjoyed by other groups in the field of employment (such as right to leave due to domestic violence). The documents, including a final summary report, are available here.
