Conference in Spain on “The role of equality bodies in the fight against discrimination”

debate low [debate low.jpg]The Spanish Race and Ethnic Equality Council will organize a Conference on “The Role of Equality Bodies in the Fight Against Discrimination” on 2-3 November 2011 at the Secretary of State of Equality, Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality in Madrid.

The Spanish Race and Ethnic Equality Council, composed by representatives of public administrations, business and trade union organisations, as well as civil society organisations, initiated its work in September 2009 with the aim of promoting the principle and right of equal treatment and non-discrimination of people on ethnic or racial grounds.

At this point, after two years of intense work, the Council decided it is the right time to organise a conference with the aim of presenting the work done since it was created, debate on equality and non-discrimination, and analyse with key institutions and stakeholders what are the key challenges in the current social and economic context.

They have therefore foreseen a variety of speeches and thematic round tables given by relevant experts in the field of equality and non-discrimination, both at national and European level, such as the European Commission, Equinet, OSCE and other equality bodies. Ms. Mandana Zarrehparvar, the Chair of Equinet's Executive Board, will deliver the Opening Speech on "Equality bodies in the EU".

A draft programme with information on the different topics that will be debated and the experts that will attend can be found here, while the registration form is available here. The deadline to register ends on 21st October 2011. The number of participants is limited; we therefore encourage you to send the form as soon as possible to the e-mail conferencia2011@igualdad.mspsi.es. The latest information on the conference can also be found on its dedicatedhttp://www.igualdadynodiscriminacion.org/destacados/Conferencia2011l.htm

Due to its financial limitations, we remind you that the Council is not able to finance costs related to your participation (travel and accommodation). Nonetheless, organisations wishing to send a representative but lacking the financial capacity to do so can always contact the Council via e-mail and ask for a financial support. Their request will be examined in a timely manner and accommodated as far as their capacities allow.
