Niall Crowley resigned on 11 December 2008 as Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Equality Authority, following the 43% budget cutbacks implemented by the Irish Government and the decentralization of most of the Equality Authority staff. The Equality Authority in Ireland is a founding and active member organisation of EQUINET – European Network of Equality Bodies.
