Equinet Strategic Plan 2011-2014

EQUINET Strategic Plan 2011 - 2014

Background

The Strategic Plan seeks to build on the work and achievements of Equinet to date and to develop this work to further meet the diverse needs of Equinet’s membership. It also tries to ensure that Equinet remains relevant in a context for equality bodies that is constantly changing.

It is hoped that throughtout the preparation of this strategic plan members of Equinet weren able to shape its work, to ensure it meets their needs and to assert their ownership of and responsibility for the network.

The new strategic plan 2011- 2014

On 16 November 2010, voting representatives of Equinet member organisations ratified the proposed strategic plan for the period of 2011-2014. No amendments to the draft plan were suggested by member equality bodies.

The proposed strategic plan was well received by members as it obtained an absolute majority of the votes.

Consultation process

Early 2010, Equinet Board Members shared some initial thoughts with the regard to the Strategic Plan 2011-2014 and led to the elaboration of a discussion document ‘Some Initial Considerations From the Equinet Board’. The document was distributed to assist the preparation of submissions on the Strategic Plan and was widely used and commented on in these submissions.

During the first semester, Equinet has engaged in a wide ranging consultation process to support the preparation of its strategic plan 2011 to 2014. A call for submissions was launched, discussion took place at all Equinet Working Groups meetings and stakeholder meetings were organised. Through this consultation process, Equinet hoped to listen, share and discuss key issues for the future of the network.

The consultation was successful and showed the active involvement of members and partners. In total twenty one submissions were made by Equinet members, discussion was held at three of the Equinet Working Groups as well as two consultation fora with European Union level NGOs and with the social partners at European Union level.

A document synthesising the information gathered during this consultation process with particular effort to identify and extract the areas of broad consensus has been drafted by the secretariat and reviewed by the Equinet Board. The synthesis note is not a draft strategy plan but rather a report presenting the main outcomes of the consultation process.

The report was disseminated to members for information early July. Over the summer the Board continued to work towards the development of the next strategic plan for Equinet and unveiled a draft strategic plan in October. Members were then invited to submit amendments to the proposed document in view of the Annual General Meeting on 16-17 November 2010. On the latter dates, the Equinet Strategic Plan 2011-2014 was adopted unanimously by the General Assembly. To read more about the Equinet Annual General Meeting 2010, click here.

Equinet would like to thank all the persons who gave their time and actively participated in this process. Their input has been crucial to the shaping of the future of the network.
