EU awards journalists for raising awareness of discrimination

 

The award

Now in its seventh year, the EU Journalist Award honours online or print journalists in the EU who, through their work, contribute to a better public understanding of the value and benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination in Europe.

The competition is open to journalists who write on issues of discrimination or diversity on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, disability and sexual orientation. All entries must have been published in a print or online media outlet which has its main editorial office in one of the 27 EU Member States.

Winners of the 2009 competition

The name of the European winners of the 2009 competition, selected among the national winners by a European jury, were revealed on 29 April 2010. During the day, the winning journalists were awarded during a ceremony in Brussels in presence of the Vice-President of the European Commission  in charge of justice, fundamental rights and citizenship.

The 2010 competition

The 2010 competition was officially opened on the same day. Articles must be published between 1 September 2009 and 17 September 2010 in a print or online media outlet that has its main editorial office in one of the 27 EU Member States. The deadline for submitting articles via the award website is 17 September 2010.
