Promoting Diversity Management at the Workplace across the EU

25 March 2010

New project launched by the European Commission

The European Commission has encouraged employers to put diversity management more firmly on their strategic business agenda and has supported and featured their activities across the EU over the last few years.

To continue supporting voluntary initiatives promoting diversity management at the workplace, the European Commission has launched a new project, with three main objectives:

􀂙 Launch and maintain a platform for EU-level exchange between Diversity Charters in Europe
􀂙 Develop and implement a European diversity award at the workplace
􀂙 Develop a diversity benchmarking system with and for businesses

All of these tasks will allow beginners, inter-mediate or advanced organisations to participate.
The focus will be on comprehensive models for diversity and inclusive approaches to diversity management (most or all core dimensions, i.e. race/ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion; gender should be an embedded theme in any activity).

The long term objective is to maximise diversity and equality measures in businesses across the EU.

This project is an initiative from the European Commission, Directorate-General for employment, social affairs, and equal opportunities (DG EMPL).
