Fundamental Rights Protection in EU Law under the Lisbon TreatyThe Academy of European Law organises a two-day event on 22-23 April 2010 in Trier, Germany. The conference will examine the current state of fundamental rights protection within the EU and the implications of the Lisbon Treaty. Through the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the Charter of Fundamental RIghts will become legally binding on the EU and its Member States. A further development that will become possible through the Lisbon Treaty is the Union's accession to the European Convention on Human Rights. What do these changes mean for the protection of fundamental rights in the EU? How will those legal sources interact in the framework of the EU? Speakers will include academics and representatives of the Legal Service of the European Commission, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Curt of Justice and the Fundamental Rights Agency.
